What is the “Barbenheimer” name for Supergirl (2026) and Jackass: Best and Last (2026)?

They share the same release date of June 26, 2026 (well, the same weekend, anyway), and while the hype for both films isn’t evenly matched, these are two popular and well-known intellectual properties coming out at the same time. So, naturally, the question has arisen - what is their movie mash-up name? For the latest live action adventure of the Girl of Steel and what is implied to be the final stunt showcase of Johnny Knoxville and company, their combined title is… probably not repeatable in decent society. But we can’t deny Girl Jack. Or Super Best if we use the Jackass subtitle, but that’s not as fun. Jacker Girl, Super Jack, Sackerass - there’s no end to the possibilities!

If you only watch one of these two summer blockbusters*, the movie I definitely recommend is…

Well, my honest opinion is neither. But Def Rec is, among other things, a recommendation blog, so my pick is Supergirl. Despite my personal feelings that this most recent DCU offering looks, at best, like a middling meh-fest, it still at least appears to be better seen as a theatrical experience. With the right crew of buds, Jackass could easily be a raucous romp at the cinema sure to have you yapping about which feat looked the most excruciating while exiting to the parking lot. However, after having seen a couple of the big screen versions of the gross-out pain escapades in the theater, I think you’ll enjoy Jackass just as much at home when it crashes into streaming.

*Time will tell just how many blocks get busted.

The name combo trend was most recently popularized with, of course, the simultaneous release of Barbie and Oppenheimer on July 21, 2023. The drastic contrast in style, tone, and subject matter proved to be ripe for parody and the Internet memes flooded our algorithmic social media feeds. The jokes ranged from clever, corny, to absurd as nearly every single human alive with online access chimed in with their (original or hackneyed) take on the motion picture phenomenon. Frankly, no matter the quality of the “Barbenheimer” spoofs or humorous observations, it was refreshing to see so many people get excited about simply going to the theater. Subsequent film debuts have varied in enthusiasm amongst the gen pop of moviegoers, but we all still love the amalgamation of movie titles that happen to go wide on the same day.

Ghostbusters and Gremlins released 6/8/84:

Def Rec: If for some reason you can only watch one of these two beloved flicks, you got to go with Ghostbusters and I’d wager you’re most likely watching around Halloween. But as soon as the clock strikes twelve and it’s November 1st, start playing the Christmas classic Gremlins.

Blade Runner and The Thing released 6/25/82:

Def Rec: This is the toughest of calls because there is no wrong answer. This dream duo of sci-fi masterpieces from opposite ends of the spectrum could make any night a Blockbuster Night. Each feature is visually stunning in different ways and tells gripping stories from unique perspectives. Other than a coin flip, the way you’d decide which to watch if you only have the opportunity to select only one comes down to mood. John Carpenter’s The Thing heightens the creepy factor where Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner is an immersive and stylish sensory overload. For me, for now, I’m saying The Thing due to me simply being more familiar with it. Also, it has 100% more Wilford Brimley.

Def Rec: The choice of whether or not to watch the sequel to 2005’s Batman Begins or the film adaption of the ABBA-themed stage musical will boil down to what kind of human you are. Most of the time, picking one of these two starkly different movies will be decided on whether or not you are a man or a woman. If the husband or boyfriend is choosing the night’s entertainment, it’s not going to include the song “Dancing Queen.” Not that every lady would automatically prefer Mamma, but the chances are high. I am actually an outsider nerd who thinks that the Christopher Nolan-directed Dark Knight trilogy doesn’t hold up as well. That being said, I am still in agreement that Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker continues to hold TDK together so I’m definitely recommending the Caped Crusader here.
